Stamford, CT is a beautiful small town. At least we felt so. Reading the facts it shows that there live more than 110 thousand inhabitanys, which is not very small. It is situated in Fairfield County, Connecticut, USA.
Stamford was incorporated as a city in the end of 19th century. Stamford has very few historic buildings. The reason might be the massive urban redevelopment campaign during the 1970s that changed the face of the downtown. There are no skyscrapers in Stamford, but the office buildings are modern and fancy.
There was a big shopping center just between the office I worked and the apartment house we lived - the Stamford Town Center. It has Macy’s, G.A.P, Timberland, Limited Too, Casual Corner, Dress Barn and so many other shops that are our favorites in US. This is unnecessary to ad that we visited this center many times. It seemed to me that there are constant discounts in shops.
As it was summer, we were interested about beaches nearby. Locals suggested Jones Beach, which was two hours by car. When driving in New York City Metro area, you should always consider traffic jams. And because of those it was not possible to visit beaches after working days. And also, weather was rather cold, rainy and cloudy. Locals said that this is quite exceptional summer.
The beaches more close to Stamford are stony. We did one evening the short trip to nearby beach. This was really not so fascinating experience.
One evening we went to see greyhound racing Bridgeport Shoreline Star. We did not know what to expect from that event. It as interesting to see the dogs but also the people who betting on dogs.
